It was culture, color, and commendation galore at the 2025 Ogidi Day Festival as the vibrant community in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State honored former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello with its prestigious “Legend of Resourceful Democracy Award.”
The annual festival, famous for its celebration of the new yam harvest and rich cultural heritage, became even more electrifying with the presence of Bello, who was celebrated not just as a guest, but as a ‘son of the soil”whom the people of the community believe Bello’s developmental strides have left an indelible mark on Kogi State.
Bello, clearly moved by the gesture, pledged his continued commitment to the growth of Ogidi kingdom and reaffirmed his dedication to the development of Kogi as a whole.
Adding a splash of artistic brilliance to the occasion, renowned artist and cultural icon,Nike Okundaye, founder of the Nike Art Gallery, presented the former governor with a hand-painted portrait.
She described the piece as a tribute to Bello’s “unwavering efforts in delivering the dividends of democracy across the state.”
In a heartfelt address, Bello described culture as the “soul of society”, adding that it is a force that shapes beliefs, traditions, and actions.
He prayed for the continuous peace and prosperity of Ogidi and commended those who returned from the diaspora for the festival, encouraging others to emulate them and invest in their roots.
Not one to shy away from political assurances, Bello revealed that Governor Usman Ododo’s administration would ensure the completion of the Ayere-Ondo boundary road, as well as other critical infrastructure projects in Ogidi. He proudly declared that all road works would meet the revered “GYB standard.”
The former governor also showered praise on Prince Olatunji Olusoji, newly installed as the Bashorun Akinjagunla of Ogidi Kingdom, applauding his contributions both in Ogidi and his maternal home, Delta State.
Bello pledged collaboration with the prince to accelerate development efforts in the community.
In true political fashion, Bello rallied the community to maintain unity, vigilance, and peaceful coexistence.
Bello hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and described him as a “great father of the nation” and called for full support for his re-election bid in 2027.
With a confident smile, he declared “no vacancy in Lugard House,” throwing his weight behind Governor Ododo’s second-term ambition.

The Chairman of the occasion, Architect Salman Idris, celebrated Bello for gracing the event and lauded his “gigantic developmental strides,” which, he noted, continue to benefit the people of Kogi.
One of the standout moments of the day was the joyful commemoration of Bello’s 50th birthday, marked by a ceremonial cake cutting amid cheers, music, and a gathering of political heavyweights.
In attendance were Senator Ohiare, State Security Adviser,Commander Jerry Omodara (retd), Commissioner for Special Duties Sunday Faleke, Commissioner for Education Wemi Jones, and several members of the Kogi State House of Assembly.
The 2025 Ogidi Day Festival was not just a celebration of culture,it was a grand showcase of legacy, leadership, and local pride.
