Kogi State, the government has inaugurated a State Task Force on Primary Health Care Services, aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of public health programs,in a renewed effort to boost healthcare delivery across the state.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Lokoja, the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Comrade Joel Salifu, called o. members of the committee to work collaboratively in building a healthier and more resilient state.
According to Comrade Salifu, the establishment of the task force underscores the administration’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of its citizens.
“We recognize that healthcare is not just a social service, but a critical component of our state’s development. By strengthening our primary healthcare system, we can improve health outcomes, reduce mortality rates, and enhance the overall quality of life for our people,” he stated.
The deputy governor noted that the task force would play a vital role in coordinating and overseeing primary health care activities, including immunization, maternal and child health, disease prevention and control, and health promotion.
He assured the committee of the government’s full support in achieving tangible and lasting impact.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, said the task force would serve as a platform for inter-sectoral coordination and collaboration, ensuring that directives from relevant authorities are translated into measurable improvements at the grassroots level.
Dr. Adams added that similar coordination committees would be established across all the 21 local government areas to drive the implementation of Primary Health Care (PHC) programs statewide.
Earlier, the Executive Director of the Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Muazu Musa, expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his leadership and dedication to improving healthcare access and delivery.
He encouraged members of the task force to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Kogi citizens.
Also speaking at the event, the Kogi State Coordinator of the World Health Organization (WHO), Mr. Sani Ibrahim, commended the government for demonstrating political will, strategic foresight, and a firm commitment to transforming the health sector.
The inauguration of the State Task Force, he noted, is a clear demonstration of the government’s resolve to ensure that every resident of Kogi has access to quality primary health care services.
