The Centre for Ethics and Self-Value Orientation (CESVO), a Non-Governmental Organization, has conducted a training session for members of the Kogi State Government House Media Team, focusing on ethical conduct and professional excellence.
Our correspondent gathered that the training, held at the Government House in Lokoja, was facilitated at the request of the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Hon. Ismaila Isah.
In his remarks during the session, CESVO Executive Director, Prince Salihu Yakubu, underscored the vital role of integrity and emotional intelligence in public service.
He described the media team as a crucial bridge between government and the public, stating that the initiative was aimed at enhancing professionalism and improving service delivery.
“This training fulfills the promise we made during our award presentation to support the media office through capacity building.
“We are impressed by the leadership of Hon. Ismaila Isah. This initiative reflects his ethical commitment and pursuit of excellence,”he noted.
Prince Yakubu, who also founded the Nigeria Youth Parliament, covered seven core areas of workplace ethics, including emotional intelligence, leadership behavior, teamwork, and ethical decision-making.
“Our goal is to nurture a culture of accountability, ethical responsibility, and effective communication within the media team.
“We want to empower them to build strong working relationships and serve as a model of ethical leadership in Kogi State,”he added.
The CESVO boss urged participants to set aside personal sentiments in their professional duties and embrace a nationalistic approach to public service.
He recommended the adoption of a formal code of conduct to guide the team’s operations and reinforce accountability.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of Hon. Ismaila Isah, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Yabagi Mohammed, commended CESVO for what he described as a “well-rounded and impactful training.”
“This seven-module course will not only enhance productivity but also foster a more cohesive and motivated media team,” Isa said.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant on Print Media to the First Lady of Kogi State, Muhammed Ohikwo, praised the initiative and lauded Hon. Ismaila Isah for providing an enabling environment for ethical reflection and professional development.
Our gathered that the training was part of CESVO’s broader mission to promote ethical standards and improve public service delivery through targeted capacity-building initiatives.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates to participants, who were charged to serve as ambassadors of ethical conduct in public service and media practice.
