Ogun Athletes Protest Non-Payment of Allowances at National Sports Festival

Athletes representing Ogun State at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest over the non-payment of their camp allowances.

Our correspondent reports that the demonstration, which started in the early hours of the day, caused a temporary disruption at Babcock University, Ilishan-Ogere,one of the key venues of the festival,as the protesting athletes blocked the main entrance to draw attention to their grievances.

The protest also briefly affected intra-venue movement, with members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) reporting difficulties accessing some venues to cover the day’s events.

In response to the situation, Dr. Ademola Are, a member of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and President of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), has engaged the athletes in a dialogue aimed at finding a peaceful resolution.
