Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed profound grief over the tragic road accident along the Lokoja-Obajana highway that claimed 19 lives, including five children, and left eight others injured in the early hours of Monday.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, and made available to The Reporters in Lokoja, the Governor described the incident as a heartbreaking loss to the affected families and the entire state.
The accident, which involved a Toyota Hummer Bus and an articulated vehicle, was reportedly caused by over speeding and wrongful overtaking.
“Losing 19 lives, including innocent children, in a single accident is a tragedy beyond words. Our hearts are heavy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. We must act swiftly to prevent such painful occurrences. No journey is worth the cost of lives,” Governor Ododo said.
He commended the swift response of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police, whose efforts helped rescue survivors now receiving treatment in hospitals
