In a decisive strike against organized crime, operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested a notorious cattle rustler, kidnap kingpin, and armed robbery suspect, Abashe Gizo, following an intelligence-led operation at Shinge Market in Lafia.

This is contained in a statement signed by SP Ramhan Nansel,
Police Public Relations Officer
For: Commissioner of Police
Nasarawa State Command in Lafia and a copy available to The Reporters on Sunday.

The police described Gizo, as a “high-profile and dangerous criminal,” adding that he had long evaded capture and was on the Command’s wanted list for multiple offences, including cattle rustling and kidnapping, which have plagued rural communities in recent years.

Nansel said that acting on credible intelligence, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) closed in on the suspect at a busy market in the state capital and he was swiftly apprehended without resistance.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in several high-profile criminal activities.

“He later led officers to his hideout in Ruwan Baka village, Doma Local Government Area, where an AK-49 rifle with breach number 453144 and a loaded magazine were recovered,” Nansel said.

The arrest comes on the heels of another major security operation just days earlier, when police intercepted one Fatima Salisu transporting a cache of ammunition from Doma to Katsina State.

Authorities believe the weapons were destined for armed groups operating in the region.

The Commissioner of Police in the state,CP. Shetima Jauro Mohammed, commended the operatives for their professionalism and resilience, stating that the arrest marks a significant step in dismantling criminal networks in Nasarawa State.

“This Command remains resolute in its mission to root out crime and ensure the safety of all residents. Our operations will not relent until all criminal elements are flushed out,” CP Mohammed assured.

The police boss in the state urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, according to police.
