Contrary to widespread rumours, His Royal Majesty, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi (Otitoleke Oweyomade I), remains the recognized Obaro of Kabba.
Recent speculation suggesting that he has been removed from office by the Supreme Court is false and misleading.
A statement issued by Dayo Akinlaja, SAN, legal counsel to the Obaro, and made available to journalists in Lokoja on Saturday, described the rumour as “evil and mischievous falsehood” designed to create confusion among the Owe people and the wider Kogi public.
Clarifying the facts, Akinlaja explained that the Supreme Court merely ruled that the Kogi State High Court has the jurisdiction to hear a chieftaincy suit filed against the Obaro’s appointment.
The apex court therefore directed that the case be returned to the High Court for hearing on its merit.
“At no point did the Supreme Court rule that Oba Owoniyi has been removed The decision was strictly on jurisdictional grounds and not about the validity of his appointment,”he emphasized.
The SAN urged the people of Kabba and Kogi State at large to disregard any contrary narrative, stressing that Oba Owoniyi remains the legitimate traditional ruler of Kabba.
“The issue of his removal does not arise in any form or shape. The Owe people must be rightly informed that Oba Solomon Owoniyi remains on the throne of his ancestors,” the statement added.
The senior lawyer offered prayers for the long and peaceful reign of Oba Owoniyi, describing him as a symbol of unity and tradition in Kabba land.
