In a precise and intelligence-led operation, operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old suspected female arms trafficker and recovered 481 rounds of live ammunition.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima J. Mohammed, and made available to The Reporters on Thursday in Lafia.
According to the statement, the suspect, Fatima Salisu, a native of Funtua in Katsina State, was arrested in the Azuba area of Lafia while allegedly transporting the ammunition through Keana and Doma Local Government Areas. She was reportedly en route to Katsina to deliver the consignment to criminal elements.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate deployment of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
“The team acted swiftly and professionally, leading to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of 400 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition and 81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition,” the statement read.
The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation as police intensify efforts to dismantle the trafficking network and uncover its links to banditry and terrorism.
CP Mohammed described the arrest as a major breakthrough in the fight against illegal arms proliferation and organized crime in the region.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to securing the state and urged residents to provide timely and credible information to support law enforcement operations.
