The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to religious tolerance, unity, and inclusive development, describing Imo as a home of shared faith and peaceful coexistence.

Speaking on May 9 at the flag-off of the first-ever direct airlift of Muslim pilgrims from Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport to Saudi Arabia for the 2025 Hajj, Governor Uzodinma said the event exemplifies the state’s embrace of religious diversity.

“Imo has long stood as a place of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

“This historic airlift of 315 pilgrims from Imo, Abia, and Bayelsa States is not just a logistical milestone—it is a celebration of our identity as a people united in faith and values,”he said.

The governor noted that the flight marked the first international departure from the state-owned airport, and the formal commencement of this year’s Hajj operations nationwide.

The governor also disclosed plans to facilitate Christian pilgrimages from the same airport in the near future.

“This is a proud moment for our people. It reflects our shared commitment to spiritual development and harmony among all faiths,” Uzodinma added.
