The Chairman of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Alumni Association, Kogi State Branch, Engr. Mohammed Sagir, has called on members to reignite their passion and commitment toward the growth and objectives of the association.
He emphasized that the success of the body depends largely on the active participation and collective drive of its members.
Engr. Sagir made this appeal during the association’s monthly meeting held at the NBA Secretariat in Lokoja on Thursday.
He underscored the importance of the gathering, describing it as a platform not only for discussing the progress of the alumni body but also for forging stronger bonds among members.
Expressing concern over the poor turnout at recent meetings, the chairman noted that low attendance does not reflect the strength and potential of ABU graduates in Kogi State.
He explained that participation in meetings transcends routine obligation, as it serves as a powerful tool for enhancing unity, fostering friendships, and exploring social and economic opportunities within the network.
“Involvement in the association should not be seen as a formality. It is a chance to connect, collaborate, and contribute to the development of our alma mater and ourselves,” he said.
He urged members to take pride in their identity as ABU alumni and to see the association as a vehicle for positive change, both within and outside the academic community.
To strengthen the spirit of camaraderie, Engr. Sagir announced that the association is planning a grand “Get-Together and Award Night” scheduled for July 2025.
The event, he said, aims to celebrate the achievements of members, recognize excellence, and foster deeper relationships with the wider Kogi society.
He encouraged all members to actively promote and support the forthcoming event, stressing the need for both moral and financial backing.
According to him, members who hold influential positions in the public and private sectors of the state’s economy have a vital role to play in ensuring the success of the event.
Engr. Sagir reminded members that the strength of any alumni association lies in unity, shared purpose, and a willingness to give back.
He expressed optimism that with renewed zeal and a collective sense of responsibility, the Kogi branch of the ABU Alumni Association will achieve greater impact in the months and years ahead.
