The Nasarawa State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting vulnerable populations, especially during emergencies.
Barr. Benjamin Akwash, the newly appointed Director-General of the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA), made this known in an interview with journalists on Saturday in Lafia.
Akwash said the state government has implemented several initiatives to strengthen disaster resilience and reduce the impact of emergencies on residents.
He noted that the government is focused on providing livelihood support, enhancing food security, and offering grants to poor and vulnerable households.
According to him, Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration has remained steadfast in assisting the less privileged since assuming office in 2019, adding that the governor is determined to sustain this effort.
“In the event of an emergency, the government, through our agency, provides timely and effective support to affected individuals to aid their recovery,” Akwash said.
He highlighted the agency’s mandate, which includes coordinating emergency preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery efforts across the state.
“This covers preventing, mitigating, preparing for, and responding to both natural and human-induced disasters. Our goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of Nasarawa State residents in any crisis,” he explained.
Akwash expressed gratitude to Governor Sule for the opportunity to serve and pledged to carry out his duties with dedication and responsibility.
He also paid tribute to his late predecessor, Zachary Allumaga, praying for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased and strength for the bereaved family.
