In a moment steeped in tradition and royal grace, the Egbira community in Lafia, Nasarawa State,on Saturday ,witnessed the historic installation of a new Turaki—a revered chieftaincy title that symbolizes leadership, service, and commitment to the people.

Sources in Lafia told our correspondent on Sunday that the newly installed Turaki of Alhaji Muktar Abubakar Sadiq, was conferred with the title Turakin Anegbira of Lafia in a grand ceremony held at the royal palace of the Odeyani Anegbira of Lafia, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, over the weekend.

Dressed in regal attire befitting the honour, Alhaji Muktar stood tall as he received his certificate of title from the Odeyani Anegbira, surrounded by traditional rulers, community elders, family, and well-wishers.

The event was marked by colorful displays of Egbira cultural heritage—drumming, dancing, and chants of unity filled the air as the people celebrated the ascension of one of their own to a seat of influence.

The title of Turaki is one of high esteem within the traditional institution, often bestowed upon individuals with proven integrity, leadership, and a heart for community service. Alhaji Muktar, known for his humility, philanthropic gestures, and advocacy for youth empowerment, was widely applauded as a deserving recipient.

Speaking after his installation, the new Turaki expressed gratitude to the Odeyani Anegbira and the entire Egbira community for the honour bestowed on him.

“This title is not just a recognition but a call to greater service. I dedicate it to the youth, the elderly, and every member of our community striving for a better future,” he said.

The Odeyani Anegbira, in his royal remarks, described Alhaji Muktar as a bridge-builder and a beacon of hope for the younger generation.

“In him, we see wisdom, courage, and the spirit of Egbira pride. May his tenure as Turaki bring peace, progress, and unity to our people,” the monarch declared.

As the sun set over the ancient city of Lafia, the echoes of the celebration lingered—a royal story written into the heart of the Egbira community, and a reminder that tradition continues to thrive where leadership meets legacy.
