The African College of Surgeons has commended the Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH), Lafia, for the quality of its Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) residency programmes during an official accreditation inspection.
Our correspondent reports that led by Prof. Silas Ochenjele, the team from the College carried out a thorough assessment of the programmes on Tuesday in Lafia, Nasarawa State, as part of the requirements for full accreditation.
Prof. Ochenjele praised the hospital for providing high-quality and affordable medical services, noting that the high volume of patients significantly enriches the training experience for resident doctors.
He emphasized that such a busy clinical environment offers aspiring specialists invaluable exposure and hands-on practice in their fields. He also urged the hospital’s management to prioritize the welfare of consultants and residents to curb the ongoing trend of medical brain drain.
In response, Dr. Hassan Ikrama, the hospital’s pioneer Chief Medical Director (CMD), represented by the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Aboje Aboje, expressed gratitude to the team for their visit and constructive feedback.
Dr. Ikrama assured the delegation of the hospital’s commitment to implementing the recommended improvements to further strengthen its postgraduate medical training.
