The Police Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Adebola Hamzat,five others as new Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) and assigned new Commissioners of Police to Enugu and Oyo States.
Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations at the PSC, made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
The commission also promoted Mr. Uzuegbu Kanayo, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
The newly appointed DIGs are: Sadiq Abubakar, Benjamin Okolo, Williams Adebowale, Bzigu Bali, Idegwu Ukuoma, and Adebola Hamzat.
The Commission added Ademola Johnson has been appointed as the new CP for Oyo State, while Mamman Giwa will assume the role of CP for Enugu State.
The PSC further announced the promotion of eight Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police. The promoted officers include Abdullahi Usman, Sani Abdu, Ifeanyi Owo, Vincent Orole, Elisha Atikinkpan, Margaret Okonkwo, Alhasan Guga, and Imo Ezekiel.
These senior officers were elevated after successfully completing written examinations and interactive oral interviews.
The Chairman of the PSC, Mr. Hashimu Argungu, who presided over the promotion sessions, urged the new DIGs to support the Inspector-General of Police in their efforts to enhance the Nigeria Police Force’s capacity to ensure improved security and maintain law and order nationwide.
Our correspondent reports that Adebola Ayinde Hamzat,a product of Gss,Afon in Asa LGA in kwara state, has to his credit,a distinguished career in law enforcement and peacekeeping.
An indigene of Kwara State, the new DIG embarked on his journey with the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police
He is a well-rounded academic, with a degree in Sociology from the University of Ilorin, a Master’s in Conflict Management and Peace Studies from the University of Jos, and a PhD in Peace and Development Studies also from Unilorin.
Over the years, Hamzat has built a distinguished career within the police force, with a diverse range of roles.
These include being the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, Commissioner of Police, Border Patrol Force,Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of the Counter-Terrorism Unit and
service in UN peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Timor Leste before his new position.
A seasoned officer,Dr. Hamzat’s extensive experience and commitment to peace and security have significantly contributed to his country’s law enforcement and global peacekeeping efforts.
