Alhaji Adamu Mamnan Kontagora, the President of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Alumni Association Worldwide, has praised the Kogi State branch for its outstanding hospitality during his recent two-day visit to Lokoja, the state capital.
Our correspondent recalls that Kontagora was in Lokoja to 24th Inaugural Lecture at Federal University Lokoja, delivered by Prof. Musa Adeku Ibrahim, a fellow ABU alumnus.
This lecture was an important event for the academic community, but it also served as an opportunity for the ABU Alumni President to connect with members of the local chapter.
In his remarks while interacting with some members of the branch after the lecture,Alhaji Kontagora expressed his deep appreciation for the warm reception he received from the Kogi branch.
He noted that it stood out even among his many visits across the country. “I’ve traveled to many states, but the reception I received here in Kogi was exceptional. In fact, when I was shown to my suite, I initially thought it was for a visiting governor!” Kontagora shared with a smile.
He reminisced about his election to the presidency of the alumni association, recalling how the Kogi delegates had consistently supported him.
“During my election at the national level, all 10 delegates from Kogi State cast their votes for me. This was repeated during my election as president, and I am grateful for their unwavering support,” he added.
Kontagora, who was warmly welcomed by the executive members of the branch at the Naval Base, an area on the outskirts of Lokoja, emphasized the importance of such strong local connections.
He credited the positive reception to the strong bond between the Kogi branch and the larger ABU Alumni Association, which continues to flourish.
Kotangora also acknowledged the significant contribution of Dr. Danjuma Mahmud, the Secretary-General of the association, hailed him as a “reliable ally” who contains to play an important role in shaping the national agenda for ABU alumni.
In a conversation about alumni engagement, Kontagora addressed the importance of active participation.
He urged members who abstain from meetings to reconsider their step highlighting the numerous personal and professional benefits of involving in alumni association meeting.
“Alumni associations are more than just social gatherings; they are powerful platforms for networking and growth. Just imagine writing to a former president or leader who is also an alumnus – the support you can receive is unmatched,” he explained.
Kontagora stressed that the true value of alumni associations lies not only in physical benefits but also in the psychological rewards of belonging to such a community.
“The more people understand the benefits of alumni engagement, the better it will be for everyone. Alumni associations are platforms for personal growth, sacrifice, and shared support, offering countless opportunities for members,” he added.
The president called on more alumni to actively participate in association meetings, stressing that the networking opportunities and personal connections made within these gatherings could greatly enhance both their careers and personal development.
