A Non-Governmental Organisation, the Anti-Kidnapping, Human Trafficking, Child Abuse, and Drug Abuse Initiative (AKH-TRACADA), has lauded the Federal Government’s decisive actions to address the growing issue of bullying in Nigerian schools.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, and a copy available to The Reporters on Thursday, the organisation’s Executive Director and Founder, Mr. Belonwu Ezeanyaeche, praised the government’s establishment of a seven-member committee dedicated to combatting bullying in schools.
Our correspondent recalls that the Federal Ministry of Education recently formed the committee and introduced confidential reporting channels to address bullying across Nigerian schools.
Ezeanyaeche noted that bullying had become a widespread concern in schools, severely impacting the mental health, well-being, and academic performance of affected students.
“The federal government’s action is a step in the right direction. It’s crucial for fostering a safe, bully-free environment in our schools,” he said.
He emphasized that every student deserves a learning environment free from fear and harassment.
Ezeanyaeche reiterated the organisation’s commitment to collaborating with the government and other stakeholders to ensure the committee’s success and the effective execution of anti-bullying initiatives in schools.
He also called on parents, educators, and community leaders to unite in the fight against bullying.
“We must work together to foster a culture of kindness, empathy, and respect in our schools. The formation of the committee and the creation of reporting channels are significant milestones in the battle against bullying.
“With the collective support of all stakeholders, we are hopeful that Nigerian schools will become safer, more inclusive spaces for all students,”he added.
