The management of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Kogi State, has announced the indefinite closure of all academic and administrative activities following a tragic road accident on the Lokoja-Okene Highway at the Felele axis on Monday. The accident claimed the lives of five university students.
Rebecca Almiohu Okojie, the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, issued a statement in Lokoja on Thursday, confirming the closure.
She explained that the decision followed the students’ protests and barricading of the university gates, despite efforts by the state government and university management to address the situation and restore calm.
Okojie added that following advice from state security agencies and in order to prevent further loss of life, the Vice-Chancellor, after consulting with university management, decided that both campuses would remain closed indefinitely.
According to her,the decision will take effect within one hour of the release of the circular.
“Students are advised to vacate the campuses on or before 12 noon, today, Thursday, February 20, 2025. Strict compliance is expected,” Okojie said.
