The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2024 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted across six West African countries and one Middle Eastern country.
Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, made the announcement during a press briefing at the Council’s headquarters along Minna-Bida Road on Friday.
In addition to the results, Professor Wushishi revealed the release of a digitalized annual posting system for NECO staff and outlined new measures to further enhance the credibility of the examinations.
Breaking down the statistics, the Registrar revealed that 86,067 candidates registered for the NECO SSCE external exams, comprising 44,988 males and 41,079 females. Of these, 84,799 candidates, including 44,277 males and 40,522 females, sat for the examination, representing a gender distribution of 52.21% male and 47.78% female.
Professor Wushishi also highlighted that 57,114 candidates, representing 67.35% of the 83,024 who sat for Mathematics, achieved five credits and above, including English and Mathematics.
However, the Council reported that seven supervisors, including two from Oyo and Ogun states, and one each from Cross River, Ebonyi, and Lagos states, have been recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, lateness, and involvement in aiding examination malpractices.
Furthermore, 14 centers, including 10 in Ogun and four in Oyo states, were blacklisted for facilitating widespread examination malpractices across nine subjects.
Concerned by the increasing trend of organized malpractice within entire schools, Professor Wushishi outlined stricter measures to combat such activities. He emphasized that both centers and supervisors involved in malpractice will face severe disciplinary actions, including blacklisting from NECO, WAEC, NABTEB, JAMB, and other examination bodies.
To foster transparency and maintain the integrity of the examination process, Professor Wushishi stressed, “Any center found engaging in malpractice will be blacklisted by NECO and other sister examination bodies.”

Giving a breakdown of the results, the Registrar said 86, 067 consisting of 44, 988 male and 41,079 female registered for the NECO SSCE external while 84, 799 comprising 44, 277 male and 40, 522 representing 52.21% and 47.78% respectively sat for the examination.
Professor Dantani also disclosed that, 57, 114 candidates representing 67.35% made 5 Credits and above in English and Mathematics out of 83, 024 that sat for Mathematics.
Meanwhile, seven Supervisors; two in Oyo and Ogun state respectively, one each in Cross River, Ebonyi and Lagos state have been recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, lateness, aiding and abating examinations malpractices.
Also, 14 centers; 10 in Ogun, 4 in Oyo states, according to him were blacklisted for their involvement in whole school/centre malpractice in 9 subjects.
Worried by the rising cases of whole school organized examinations malpractices, Dantani explained other measures aimed at curbing malpractices for candidates writing NECO and related examinations to include blacklisting such known centers while Supervisors are to face similar disciplinary measures.
To bring harmony and sanity in operations, Professor Dantani said, “When you or your centre engages in malpractice during NECO examination, you will be blacklisted by WAEC, NABTEB, JAMB and other sister examination bodies”.
