The Police Command in Kwara State has intercepted a kidnapping plot and arrested two suspects for their involvement in criminal conspiracy and extortion.

This is contained in a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP. Victor Olaiya in Ilorin on Thursday.

According to the CP, on January 9, 2025, at approximately 11:00 AM, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department responded to a report from two residents of Ifelodun Local Government Area who had received threatening calls and messages demanding a ₦5 million ransom to avoid being kidnapped.

Following intelligence gathering, police detectives tracked and arrested Umar Sanni of Tarshan Girgi, Wushishi, Niger State, the police boss in the state government added.

According to him, Sanni’s arrest led to the capture of Dairu Isiaku, a resident of Iyana Share, Ifelodun LGA, Kwara State.

He said that both suspects confessed to their roles in the scheme, including supplying phone numbers of potential victims and making threats to extort money.

CP Olaiya praised the operatives for their swift response, emphasizing the Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety.

“The suspects have been charged to court and remanded in prison custody,” he said.
