The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has successfully rescued two teenage victims of human trafficking at the Illela border in Sokoto State.
The victims, aged 18 and 19, were en route to Algeria via Niger Republic without proper travel documentation.
According to the Comptroller of Immigration at the Illela Border Command, Mr. Tony Akuneme, the young women, identified as Vivian Chigozie and Miracle Felix, were intercepted at a checkpoint in Tureta, located between Sokoto and Zamfara States.
Their apprehension followed a tip-off from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Sokoto.
Following the interception, the victims were handed over to NAPTIP for further care and investigation.
Akuneme reiterated the NIS’s dedication to combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling under the leadership of Comptroller General Kemi Nandap.
He emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing such crimes.
The Sokoto State NAPTIP Commander, Mr. Abubakar Tabra, praised the NIS officers for their vigilance and ongoing partnership with NAPTIP in combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals.
