Governor Mohammed Umar Bago
The medical team at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) Specialist Hospital, Minna, Niger State, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully performing the state’s first brain surgery and knee replacement procedures.
A team led by Consultant Neurosurgeon Dr. Uthman Uthman carried out a life-saving brain surgery on a 19-year-old male who suffered severe brain trauma and a skull fracture.
Meanwhile, another surgical team, headed by Orthopaedic Surgeons Dr. Abdullahi Mohammad and Dr. Mustapha Ibrahim, performed a total knee replacement on a 65-year-old woman battling advanced bilateral osteoarthritis.
Dr. Bala Waziri, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), confirmed that both patients are recovering well in the newly upgraded amenity wing of the hospital.
Governor Mohammed Umar Bago hailed the achievement as a historic milestone for his administration in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim.
He lauded the hospital’s management and reaffirmed his commitment to providing continuous support for advancing healthcare services in the state.
Governor Bago emphasized that these accomplishments are part of his administration’s resolve to reduce medical tourism and deliver top-tier healthcare services to Niger State residents.
He also highlighted the state’s bold efforts in upgrading the IBB Specialist Hospital with cutting-edge equipment and facilities.
Once an orthopedic facility, the IBB Specialist Hospital has now transformed into a comprehensive health centre equipped to meet diverse medical needs, marking a new era in healthcare delivery for the state.
