The Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has encouraged inmates at the Kuje Custodial Centre to use their time in incarceration as an opportunity to transform their lives and prepare for a brighter future.
Cardinal Onaiyekan made the appeal during his annual Yuletide visit to the centre, where he shared messages of hope, joy, and redemption while celebrating with the inmates.
This was disclosed in a statement by Mr. Samson Duza, Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), FCT Command, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Our correspondent gathered reports that the visit is part of the Cardinal’s yearly tradition of connecting with the inmates, emphasizing their value and potential despite their circumstances.
The revered cleric told me inmates,“Your current situation is not the end of the road. Use this time to reflect, grow, and prepare yourselves for a better future. Many great individuals have risen from adversity to achieve greatness.”
The theme for this year’s celebration, “Hope, Joy, and Happiness,” inspired his message as he urged the inmates to remain optimistic and find joy, even in challenging situations.
He assured them they were not forgotten, saying, “I wish I had the power to free all of you, but I believe many of you will experience freedom before the next Christmas celebration.”
