,,,,,Councillor Rehabilitates Borehole With His Salary.

By Correspondent in Lokoja.

In a display of grassroots leadership and commitment to the dividends of democracy, the Councillor representing Enjema Ward 3 in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nasiru Yahaya, has rehabilitated a long-dormant borehole at Aliboko-Inye, using his December salary.

Our correspondent gathered that the borehole, previously managed by the community association, had been non-functional for over two years, depriving residents of a vital source of clean water.

Following the successful rehabilitation of boreholes in Ogane-Inye and Ojuaka-Inye last month, the Councillor commissioned engineers to assess the extent of damage to the Aliboko-Inye facility and provide a repair estimate.

The engineers were said to have identified the need for servicing, replacement of the pumping machine, and repair of damaged pipes.

Sources said that demonstrating proactive leadership, Councillor Yahaya released funds from his salary to ensure the immediate restoration of the borehole ahead of the festive season.

In his remarks, Yahaya emphasized that his actions were not for personal glory but a demonstration of responsive leadership.

He stated that the initiative was a temporary measure to alleviate the community’s suffering , adding that he is working to draw the attention of the Local Government Chairman, Engineer Ademu Muhammed Yahaya, and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to the broader needs of his ward.

Chief Damale, the Gago of Aliboko-Inye, expressed profound gratitude, commending the Councillor’s swift intervention.

He assured that the community would take measures to protect the rehabilitated borehole from vandalism.

Similarly, local supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) lauded the Councillor’s efforts, describing them as a reflection of effective governance and a catalyst for sustaining their support for the party.

They expressed the belief that the action of the councillor underscores the essence of grassroots democracy, where elected officials prioritize the welfare of their constituents through timely and impactful actions.
