The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, has called for heightened safety awareness among Kwarans and a thorough investigation into the death of a young man, Tunji Abdulqodir, in police custody.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir expressed deep concern over recent fire outbreaks in Ilorin, which have caused significant property damage amidst the ongoing economic challenges.
“It is unfortunate to witness such destruction during these trying times,” the Emir stated, while sympathizing with the affected families and praying for divine assistance in their recovery.
Addressing the death of Abdulqodir, the Emir described it as “a rude shock and regrettable,” expressing sorrow over the loss of a young life under such troubling circumstances.
He extended condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and associates and urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.
The Emir also appealed to security agencies to uphold professionalism and adhere to global ethical standards in their dealings with the public, emphasizing the importance of fairness, accountability, and respect for human rights.
He called on the people of Kwara State to work collectively to protect lives and property, fostering safety and security in their communities.
