Fugar, a quiet town in Edo State, erupted in celebration as its own Doris Esiokhayamhe Ogah ascended to national prominence, winning the coveted title of 45th Miss Nigeria.
The triumph of this talented lawyer and gender advocate has sparked a wave of pride and jubilation, with congratulatory messages pouring in from all corners of the nation.
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, was among the first to salute the new queen.
Through his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor described Ogah’s victory as a momentous achievement.
“As a proud representative of Edo State and the South-South zone, Miss Ogah has brought honour, beauty, and prestige to our great state,” he said.
Governor Okpebholo expressed delight over Ogah’s intelligence, charm, and commitment to women’s empowerment.
Her win, he emphasized, transcends the glamour of the pageant, reflecting her entrepreneurial spirit and passion for social justice.
“As Miss Nigeria, she now has a platform to inspire young women and advocate for causes that uplift society,” he added.
Ogah’s rise wasn’t just about beauty; she also showcased her brilliance by winning the business pitch competition at the pageant with an innovative product aimed at supporting women and girls. Her victory underlines her resourcefulness and dedication to creating positive change.
Her hometown of Fugar is basking in the glory of her success. The Fugar Progressive Union (FPU), led by Chief Richard Anetekhai, hailed Ogah as a trailblazer.
Acting spokesman Deacon Emma Okhimame noted that her win will inspire future generations of Fugarians, adding, “She has made history as the first Fugarian to be crowned Miss Nigeria.”
Ogah’s family, led by her father, HRM Engineer Emmanuel Ogah, the Okugbe of Fugar, expressed gratitude for the support shown by Fugarians during the pageant.
“This victory is a testament to the unity and strength of our community,” the traditional ruler said.
Dr. Victor Okhai, Chairman of the Fugar Tourism Committee, declared, “From a king, a queen emerges! Doris Ogah embodies the grace, brains, and beauty of Fugar. The world is hers to conquer.”
Our correspondent reports that Ogah’s victory coincides with the annual Fugar Cultural Festival, which has been supercharged with excitement.
Events celebrating her achievement include visits to traditional rulers and cultural displays leading up to a grand finale on December 27.
The spotlight is firmly on Fugar as it celebrates not only its new Miss Nigeria but also a series of achievements, including the recent triumph of Fugar-born Samson Dauda in the 2024 Mr. Olympia competition.
The message is clear: this vibrant Edo community is producing stars who shine on global stages. For Doris Ogah, the journey has just begun, and her hometown is ready to cheer her on every step of the way.
