The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has etched its name in the annals of history by unveiling Deputy Superintendent of Customs (Pilot) Olanike Nafisat Balogun as its first-ever female pilot. Rising from her humble beginnings as a cabin crew member, Balogun has become a trailblazer in the agency’s aviation sector.
Born in Kaduna and a native of Odo-Otin Local Government Area, Osun State, Balogun embarked on her extraordinary journey in 2002 when she joined the NCS as a Customs Assistant in the Airwing Unit. Over the years, her determination, resilience, and ambition propelled her to break barriers and achieve this historic feat.
In a statement shared by the NCS on its X on Sunday, the service celebrated Balogun’s achievements, describing her as a symbol of perseverance and an inspiration to generations of women.
The statement also commended the NCS for its role in nurturing her aspirations and paving the way for her groundbreaking accomplishment.
Reflecting on her journey, Balogun said:
“Staying in the Service when many of my colleagues opted for better-paying airline jobs was a tough decision, but I was determined to contribute to public service and achieve my dream of becoming a pilot.”
