Residents of Lokoja, especially motorists and commuters, expressed relief following a reduction in fuel pump prices at several filling stations in the Kogi State capital on Saturday.
Our correspondent, who visited various filling stations across Lokoja, reported that fuel prices ranged between N1,105 and N1,140 per litre. This was a decrease from the previous price range of N1,120 to N1,150, or even higher, depending on the station.
At the NIPCO filling station located on the Gadumo axis of Lokoja’s Ganaja Road, attendants were observed selling fuel at N1,105 per litre, down from N1,110 or more just a few days prior.
When asked about the price drop, an anonymous attendant revealed that the reduction came as a directive from the company’s headquarters.
Despite the price reduction, filling stations in the area experienced a surprisingly low volume of customers, with many stations seeing few vehicles, especially during the morning hours.
Some vehicle owners attributed the sparse crowd to the ongoing economic hardships.
“Thank God the price of fuel is gradually coming down in Lokoja and its environs, this could be as a result of reduction in the cost landing cost of fuel,as we are made to understand.
“However, the big question is, where is the money to buy the fuel?” Mal. Abdullahi Umar asked.
He urged the federal government to intensify efforts in revitalizing the economy to enhance Nigerians’ purchasing power and their ability to meet social and economic commitments.
