The Niger State House of Assembly (NSHA) has conducted a public hearing on a private bill seeking to establish the Niger State Sports Commission (NSSC).
Our correspondent reports that the hearing is part of efforts to revamp the state’s struggling sports sector, aiming to make it more responsive to the aspirations of Nigerlites, particularly in addressing youth unemployment through sports-driven opportunities.
Speaking at the session at Assembly Complex during the event, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Barr Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, reiterated the 10th Assembly’s commitment to passing laws with a direct positive impact on citizens.
Represented by Hon. Arc. Abubakar Suleiman (Bosso Constituency), the Speaker emphasized the readiness of members to collaborate with stakeholders to create effective legislation for the state’s benefit.
Commending the efforts of the House Standing Committee on Sports Development, the Speaker appreciated stakeholders for their valuable contributions to the proposed bill, which aims to chart a sustainable course for sports development in Niger State.
Hon. Zakari Ndagi Kinbokun, Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Sports Development and representative of Mokwa Constituency, stressed the significance of stakeholder input in ensuring the bill’s successful passage.
The Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Ibrahim Yahaya Gulbin-Boka, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Nuhu Garba Ngaski, and other ministry officials, expressed gratitude for the bill’s timeliness.
He emphasized the unifying role of sports in fostering peace and development, pledging the ministry’s full support for the initiative.
Stakeholders at the hearing include representatives from the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), and the Ministry of Justice, among others.
They contributed ideas and recommendations to establish a roadmap for restoring Niger State’s prominence in sports development.
