The President, Bola Tinubu has dissolved the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, Anambra State, and removed its recently appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bernard Odoh, alongside the Registrar, Mrs. Rosemary Nwokike.

In addition, Tinubu approved the removal of Ohieku Salami as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.

This development was announced on Wednesday through a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The statement, titled “President Tinubu sacks Nnamdi Azikiwe University Council, VC and Registrar,”is based on on allegations of procedural violations during the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor.

The NAU Governing Council, previously chaired by Greg Ozumba Mbadiwe and comprising Hafiz Oladejo, Augustine Onyedebelu, Amioleran Osahon, and Gen. Funsho Oyeneyin (retd.), was accused of appointing an unqualified Vice-Chancellor abd without adhering to due process.

The Federal Government reportedly intervened after tensions arose between the university’s Senate and the Governing Council over the appointment.

The government expressed concerns about the council’s disregard for established university governance laws, which necessitated the decisive action.
