Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo has approved the release of N8 billion for key infrastructural projects at the newly established Kogi State University, Kabba (KOSUK).
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, disclosed during a press conference in Lokoja.
Jones explained that the approved funds would be used for the construction of the university’s Senate building, Faculty of Science, as well as male and female hostels.
He also confirmed that contractors had been mobilized to begin work, with construction set to commence within the next two weeks.
The commissioner said that that the current administration, under Governor Ododo, remains committed to building upon the educational legacy of former Governor Yahaya Bello.
“Kogi State has made significant investments in education, and under Governor Ododo’s leadership, we are determined to continue prioritizing the sector.
Governor Ododo, having served in the previous administration, is dedicated to sustaining and expanding the government’s commitment to education,” he said.
The commissioner further revealed that Governor Ododo has approved a N316 million bursary award for 8,750 Kogi indigenes currently enrolled in tertiary institutions across the country.
“Of these, 201 law students will receive N300,000 each, while the remaining students will receive N30,000 each. These students were selected based on the successful upload of their verification documents from a pool of over 40,000 applicants
“Furthermore, the governor has approved over N600 million for the payment of WAEC fees for 18,734 students in public schools, with the final verification and disbursement process currently underway.

Gov. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi, has approved the disbursement of N8 billion for several infrastructural projects at the newly established Kogi State University Kabba (KOSUK).
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, disclosed this at a press conference in Lokoja.
Jones said the approved fund would cover the construction of Senate building, Faculty of science as well as Male and Female Hostels at the university.
The commissioner further assured that the contractors had been mobilised to move to sites, stressing that construction works would commence at the university within the next two weeks.
He emphasised that the state government under the leadership of Gov. Ododo, remained committed to consolidating on the strong foundation led in education by the immediate past governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello.
“Kogi government has been servicing education very monumentally, and the present administration of His Excellency, Gov Ododo is resolved to maintain and surpass the budgetary allocation of 30 per cent to education.
“Governor Ododo being part of former Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration is fully committed to giving topmost priority to education sector in the state,” he said.
The commissioner said that the governor had equally approved N316m as bursary award for 8,750 out of over 40,000 students of Kogi indigene in tertiary institutions across the county.
According to him, 201 Law students would receive N300,000 each while the remaining students would get N30,000 each.
He noted that 8,750 students are those who had completely uploaded the required documents for verification out of the 40,000 who applied online.
The commissioner added that the governor also recently approved the disbursement of over N600 million as WAEC fees for 18,734 students in public schools, adding that the final verification and disbursement process were ongoing.
