The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a comprehensive reform agenda designed to strengthen national security and improve migration management.
This initiative follows a communiqué from NIS Comptroller General Kemi Nandap, issued during the Service’s annual conference in Jos, Plateau, on Saturday. The announcement was relayed by the Service Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kenneth Udo.
Our correspondent reports that the conference, held from October 30 to November 2, focused on “Enhancing Border Security and Migration Management in a Globalized World: Challenges and Opportunities for Nigeria.” It attracted 448 participants, including senior government officials, diplomats, and key stakeholders.
Nandap emphasized that the conference aimed to evaluate the NIS’s readiness, identify emerging challenges, and formulate sustainable strategies for the organization’s future.
“NIS will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies and stakeholders. We will leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance border security and migration management. A strategic plan will be developed to align with the Federal Government’s initiatives on Foreign Direct Investment and Tourism,” she stated.
She also disclosed plans to restructure Divisional Immigration Offices, improve intelligence gathering and strengthen community engagement, along with further process re-engineering to foster professionalism, patriotism, and discipline.
Training and capacity building will be prioritized to boost knowledge and professionalism, with a robust health insurance policy and pension package set to be implemented for retired officers.
Nandap expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for their support, and she thanked Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his hospitality and assistance in making the conference a success.
