VC urges FG to support private Universities towards human development .

The Vice-Chancellor of Bells University of Technology,Ota,Ogun State, South West Nigeria,Prof.Jeremiah Ojediran, has appealed to the Federal Government to support private universities towards contributing to human capacity development.

Ojediran stated this at a news conference on Wednesday in Ota , ahead of the 16th Convocation Ceremony of the institution scheduled for Oct.16 to Nov.2.

The VC said that the private universities had made remarkable impacts both locally and international adding that graduates of these universities are doing excellently well in their various spheres of human endeavor.

Ojediran stressed the need for the federal government to support them , pointing out that they are partners in progress and working towards human capacity building in the country.

“The federal government needs to encourage private universities to contributing their quotas as establishment of university is a capital intensive.

“In addition,we have continued to produced competent graduates who are employer of labour and compete favourable at the international level.”he said.

Ojediran,who noted that the federal government does not include the students of private universities in its recently introduced scholarship programme, called for a revisit to such programme

The VC also emphasised the need to include private universities in the Tertiary Education Trust Fund(TETfund) scheme, reminding the federal government that it remains the major beneficiary of graduates from the private universities.

Ojediran reiterated the commitment of private universities, especially Bells University of Technology’s continued impacting on the country’s economy.
