Youths from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, alongside other church members, brought sanitation efforts to an orphanage in Makurdi, Benue State, in a demonstration of selfless service,
The group arrived at the state-owned Mama Abayol Orphanage in the High Level area of Makurdi early on Saturday morning, ready to perform chores and donate sanitary items for the orphanage’s use.
President Diogo Terzungwe, 1st Counselor of the Makurdi, Nigeria District Presidency, explained that this effort is part of their annual African Service Project, inspired by their belief in following the sacrificial example of Jesus Christ.
“We’re here today at Mama Abayol Orphanage to lend a helping hand. Every year in August, we choose a location to serve, and today, it’s the Abayol Orphanage,” Terzungwe said.
“We’re here to do whatever work or chores they need—whether it’s cleaning toilets, washing children’s clothes, sweeping the compound, or anything else to support their good work. We are representing Jesus Christ by doing what He would do.”
Adole Emmanuel Inalegwu, Branch President of the Demekpe branch, emphasised the significance of the day for church members.
“This African Service Project is special. We go out in our various units to render services, living as the Saviour did, and bringing happiness to those around us,” he added.
