The Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers and Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to seek divine intervention,following an unexpected halt in rainfall across northern states.
The Etsu Nupe made the call when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria,NAN in an interview in Minna on Tuesday in Minna.
The unusual dry spell threatens to disrupt the anticipated bumper harvest for this cropping season.
Rainfall, which began normally, abruptly ceased, leading some to blame ongoing road construction projects.
However, Etsu Nupe attributes the severe change in weather to a broader issue, stressing the urgent need for prayers to address the looming drought that could result in a significant food shortage.
The monarch noted that instead of the usual heavy rains expected between July and August to support crop growth, the region is experiencing acute dryness, causing widespread crop damage.
Despite warnings from NIMET about potential flooding, the current situation is contrary, exacerbating food insecurity.
The Etsu Nupe emphasized that prayers are essential to prevent a worsening food crisis and alleviate the socio-economic hardships faced by many Nigerians.
He expressed hope that turning to God in prayer would bring the needed rainfall and avert a deepening crisis.
The traditional ruler affirmed his faith in divine mercy and urging citizens to seek spiritual intervention to ensure a plentiful harvest and avoid exacerbating the already dire economic conditions.
