The Kogi State Government has reiterated its commitment to accountability, transparency, and probity, emphasizing its openness to lawful investigations.
Mr. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications,in a statement issued on Monday in Lokoja, affirmed that the state government had nothing to hide and is fully prepared to open its books for scrutiny.
Fanwo revealed that Dr. Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, two state officials, had voluntarily reported to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja, even though they had not received an official invitation.
According to media report their visit is believed to be linked to a recent order of arrest issued by the Federal High Court, Abuja, in response to allegations of suspicious financial transactions.
The order, granted by Justice Emeka Nwite, was part of a motion ex-parte filed by the EFCC under suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/909/2024.
Fanwo said:”We have not been told the specific details about the allegations against them, but it may not be unconnected to the ongoing investigations regarding some present and former Government officials.
“The officials reported as law abiding citizens of Nigeria to further demonstrate that the Government of Kogi State has nothing to hide and will always open her books to lawful investigations.”
He expressed hope that the EFCC would handle the situation professionally, acknowledging the state’s readiness to support the anti-graft efforts and maintain the confidence of its development partners who have recognized its transparency and accountability.
