The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdumalik Sarkin-Daji, has vowed to introduce legislation aimed at establishing an Inter-Tribal Agency within the state government.
His commitment came during a town hall meeting organized by Chief George Dike, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Inter-Tribal Matters.
Hon. Sarkin-Daji praised Chief Dike for rallying non-indigenous residents across Niger State to support Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s “New Niger Agenda”. Expressing confidence in Chief Dike’s abilities, the Speaker hinted at the potential elevation of the agency to a full-fledged ministry in the future.
“I have full faith in His Excellency, the Governor, to endorse this bill,” remarked Hon. Sarkin-Daji, addressing Chief Dike. “Before establishing a full ministry, let’s begin with this agency and assess its impact. George Dike, we are proud of your achievements.”
Highlighting the agency’s significance in fostering social cohesion akin to a microcosm of Nigeria, Hon. Sarkin-Daji emphasized its broader scope beyond political mobilization.
“I will personally sponsor a bill in the State Assembly for the creation of the Niger State Inter-Tribal Agency,” affirmed the Speaker. “Furthermore, I ensure that all key positions within the agency—from the Director-General to the coordinators—will be held by members of the inter-tribal community.”
Drawing parallels with other specialized ministries like Pastoral and Nomadic Affairs, Hon. Sarkin-Daji underscored recent advancements in inclusivity within the State Executive Council.
“We now have a Fulani man serving as Permanent Secretary, a historic first,” he noted. “With Governor Bago’s support, I foresee Chief George Dike joining the Executive Council in due course.”
The proposed Inter-Tribal Agency aims to institutionalize efforts to integrate and empower diverse communities across Niger State, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity and development.
