Civil service workers employed by the Kogi State government have begun receiving their monthly salaries as early as July 22, 2024.
Some workers who confirmed this while speaking with The Reporters’ correspondent in Lokoja on Tuesday, praised Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for the timely disbursement.
They also hailed the development as a morale booster and a testament to the state government’s commitment to their welfare.
“I never imagined receiving my July salary early, but here it is, a reality for me and many of my colleagues in the civil service,” said Abubakar, a civil servant at the state secretariat in Lokoja.
Our correspondent reports that the initiative follows the precedent set in June when state workers received their salaries on the 14th to ensure they had ample funds for the Sallah festival.
During the May Day celebrations, Governor Ododo reassured workers that his administration would prioritize their welfare.
While appreciative of these efforts, some workers appealed to the governor to address outstanding leave allowances.
They emphasized that such payments would significantly help them cope with the rising cost of living due to inflation in the country.
