The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has commenced a skill acquisition training programme on modern shoemaking and tailoring for youths in Ife, Osun State. The initiative, launched at the NASENI Skill Acquisition Centre in Ife Federal Constituency, is part of efforts to empower young people with practical skills.

According to a statement by Chima Akwaja, Deputy Director at NASENI, the three-day intensive training began on Monday, July 8, 2024, and will conclude on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. The programme aims to equip participants with hands-on experience in modern techniques of tailoring and shoemaking.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Engr. Dr. Olayode Adesola Olasupo, representing Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI. In his address, Dr. Olasupo highlighted NASENI’s role in fostering a robust science and engineering infrastructure to promote indigenous industrialization in Nigeria.

“The establishment of NASENI Skill Acquisition Centres across Nigeria underscores our commitment to developing critical skills required for national development,” remarked Dr. Olasupo.

He further noted that the Ife Federal Constituency Centre is the first of its kind in Osun State, demonstrating NASENI’s dedication to enhancing local capacity.

Mr. Halilu emphasized that the training programme aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on poverty alleviation, economic growth, and job creation.
