Paramount traditional ruler of Tiv people worldwide, Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, has called on political and community leaders in the Sankera region of Benue State to resolve their differences for restoration of peace in the area.

Ayatse made the call while condemning the recent violence which led to destruction of properties in Zaki Biam town of Ukum Local Government Area of the state by angry youths following the killings of 11 people by armed outlaws.

He said the unrest has hindered development and tarnished the area’s reputation as the economic backbone of Benue State.

The royal father through a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and ICT, Freddie Adamgbe, lamented the ongoing criminality despite efforts to restore peace.

He assured that the Tiv Area Traditional Council, in collaboration with the Benue State Government, will take all necessary measures to prevent further violence.

“As the father of Tiv Kingdom, it pains me to see the destruction of lives and property in Sankera. I spend sleepless nights seeking ways to end the crisis in Ukum and Katsina Ala. My prayer is for peace, as development cannot thrive amid such turmoil,” Prof. Ayatse expressed.

He added that the Tiv Area Traditional Council plans to meet with leaders and youths in Sankera to address the root causes of the unrest and achieve lasting peace.

The Tor Tiv however commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his swift action in deploying security forces to the area.
