Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has reassured students, staff, and management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, of enhanced security on the campus following a recent abduction incident.
Governor Ododo reiterated his commitment during a meeting with 29 rescued students who had been taken by attackers on May 9, 2024, from the university campus.
He pledged to complete the perimeter fencing within 16 weeks and implement comprehensive security surveillance, including round-the-clock emergency response by security agencies.
The governor emphasized that these measures reflect his administration’s determination to restore confidence and prioritize the safety of students and educational institutions across the state.
According to Ododo,he is also committed to ongoing reviews and enhancements of the university’s security architecture in alignment with the state’s safe school initiative.
Governor Ododo affirmed his administration’s unwavering dedication to providing accessible education to the state’s youth, vowing to create a secure learning environment and combat criminal elements, wherever they may be found.
In addition to ensuring security measures, Governor Ododo announced plans to honor two slain students, James Anajuwe and Caleb Musa, killed during the abduction.
During his visit, he inspected various university projects, including the Senate Building, new hostel facilities, and demonstration farms.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology,Wemi Jones, praised the governor’s swift actions in rescuing the abducted students and expressed condolences for the deceased.
He assured preventive measures to avoid future incidents in CUSTECH and other educational institutions statewide.
The Vice Chancellor of the university,Prof. Abdulrahaman Salawu, conveyed gratitude to Governor Ododo for his supportive role throughout and after the students’ captivity, as well as his assistance to the bereaved families.
He pledged the university management’s collaboration with the governor’s administration for the institution’s rapid progress.
