The Kwara State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of 363 suspects and recovery of 495.166 kilograms of narcotics and psychotropic substances between January and June 2024.
The State Commander of the organization,Ibrahim Mohammed Bashir CN, disclosed this while presenting the command’s progress report at a press conference in Ilorin on Friday
He noted that 317 males and 46 females were among those arrested, with 75 convictions secured and 35 cases pending.
“The command also conducted sensitization and awareness programs in schools, institutions, and communities, and faces challenges, including a lack of operational vehicles.
” Prospects for future success include intensifying demand reduction efforts, collaborating with the state government, and establishing a drug use policy in tertiary institutions,”he said.
The chairman of the Drug Control Committee, Kwara State, Pharmacist Barakat Olanrewaju, commended the NDLEA’s efforts and pledged continued partnership to combat drug abuse.
The Special Assistant to the governor on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control, Hon Aileru Olamilekan Mukail, assured that the governor would continue to support drug prevention programs, including the establishment of a drug control policy and drug-free clubs in public secondary schools in the state.
