A kogi- base broadcast journalist, Deborah Akoni, has lost TV studio equipment worth N20 million to thieves in Lokoja, the state capital.

According to sources, the thieves stormed the studio located on Lokoja -Ganaja road on Sunday night and made away with many studio equipment.

Akoni, who is a member of the Federated Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ, kogi state council and the Chief Executive Office of the media organization, disclosed that the thieves not only vandalized the studio, but that they went away with two Supersonic Cameras, Light, Air Conditioners among other items ,valued at over N20m.

The Chairman, Federated Chapel of NUJ in the state,Mr.Mike Abu,who visited the studio, for on the spot assessment described the robbery as a crime against Press Freedom.

“This crime is another action, inimical to the freedom of the press we have always talked about.

“One wonders why Akoni TV,amongst other businesses located at Green Apple Plaza, along Lokoja-Ganaja road should be the target of these thieves.

The chairmanl noted that Akoni TV had served as a veritable news and source of information to the people of the state, adding that fishing out the culprits of the dastardly action done to the organization would deter others in their shoe.

He lamented that the current value of items stolen and carted away from the studio, when compared to the old prices, leaves so much to be desired.

Abu, therefore, called on the security agencies in the state to swift into action with the view to arresting the culprits.
