Security agencies in Kogi on rescue mission to free CUSTECH students from kidnappers’ den.

The Police Command in Kogi state says it has swung into action with other security agencies in the state to free the students of the Kogi State -owned Confluence University of Science and Technology CUSTECH in Osara,kidnapped Thursday evening at the campus of the institution.

The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, for the command, SP.William Ovie Aya, disclosed this on Friday in Lokoja when he confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with our correspondent.

According to him,the command has sent its tactical and intelligence teams to the campus of the university to work with the army and other security agencies in securing the safe release of the students.

Giving insights into the incident,a student of the institution who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity on Friday in Osara, said the kidnappers entered the campus at about 8 p.m.on Thursday.

He added that immediately they gained entrance into the campus, they went straight to the lecture halls where students were reading for forthcoming their first semester examination and kidnapped some of them.

“We are not sure how many students have been kidnapped in the sad development but the where about of some of my colleagues is not known for now,” he lamented.

The issue has dominated social media platforms with people hazarding cause(s) of it while others appealed to the kidnappers to release students unhurt.

Also confirming the incident, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulraman Asipita, said the situation had been put under control, adding that the police personnel and other security agencies had been mobilized to the institution and the community to ensure peace and for the kidnapped students to be rescued safely.

Meanwhile, fear has gripped parents and guardians of the students of the university with some of them trooping from Lokoja, Okene and other parts of the state to the institution check their sons and daughters.
