Senegal produces youngest president in 64 years.

Forty-four-year-old Bassirou Diomaye Faye made history by assuming office as Senegal’s youngest and fifth President.
Faye officially succeeded Macky Sall on Tuesday, April 2, with prominent African leaders present to witness the inauguration.

The ceremony took place in the modern enclave of Diamniadio, situated close to Dakar, the capital city.

“Before God and the Senegalese nation, I swear to faithfully fulfil the office of President of the Republic of Senegal,” he said.

He also vowed to scrupulously observe the provisions of the Constitution and the laws.

Faye further pledged to defend ”the integrity of the territory and national independence. And to spare no effort to achieve African unity”.
The formal handover of power with outgoing President Macky Sall will take place at the presidential palace in Dakar.
According to Googl,Senegal formally achieved its independence On August 20, 1960 when the National Assembly of Senegal proclaimed the country’s independence and withdrawal from the Mali Federation (which had consisted of Mali and Senegal)
