kogi journalists launch 1st monthly environmental sanitation.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ, Kogi state council, on Saturday, launched the monthly environmental sanitation by cleaning the surroundings of their Secretariat located on Lugard road in Lokoja.
According to sources, the exercise is the first of its in the history of the Secretariat spanning 30 years.
The Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management Engr.Olusegun Stephen, commended the journalists in the state for keying into the environmental programme of the state government.
The Commissioner,represented by the Director of Sanitation in the ministry,Pst.Falodun Vincent, expressed optimism that the efforts of the journalists in that regard would lessen the burden of various environmental and health challenges in the state.

According to him the state would soon revive the monthly sanitation.
The commissioner,who donated three dustbin towards the successful of the cleaning exercise, promised that the ministry would do more soon.

Responding,the chairman of NUJ in the state,Alhaji Saudi Adamu Haruna, said the journalists in the state had resolved to key into the state government’s determination to keep the state clean to avoid health and environmental challenges, the need to start the exercise from their Secretariat.
He promised that the exercise would be a process,not only to keep NUJ Secretariat clean but other parts of the state capital soon.
Speaking with journalists who came for the the exercise, the chairman commended them for turning up
to keep the secretarial clean and healthy.
Our correspondent who visited the Secretariat reports that the journalists, led by their chairman, engaged in the cleaning of the environment in the area.
