The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, at the weekend disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has deployed enough security personnel to stop the killings in Benúe State.
Recall that many people in rural environs of the state were attacked and killed by armed invaders in recent times.
Akume said that the Governor of Benue State, Hycainth Alia, should therefore make use of the security architecture available to end the killings in the state.
He made the disclosure on Saturday at the burial ceremony of late Mrs. Msoo Sam Tar, an All Progressives Congress (APC) women leader in Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue state.
The SGF who was represented by Barr. Pius Akutah, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC) eulogised the president for the many appointments given to Benúe people and providing fertilizer for farmers in the state during the last farming season.
Akume stated emphatically that President Tinubu has deployed enough security personnel to stop the killings in the state as he urged the governor of Benue State to make use of the security architecture available to end the killings in the state.
Also speaking, the Executive Director, Housing, Finance and Accounts, Federal Housing Authority, Dr. Mathias Byuan maintained that the federal government has made available more than enough funds and palliatives to states for Governors to use in tackling hunger and insecurity.
Byuan recalled that the President recently disclosed that states with security challenges gets between N9billion and N10 billion as security votes every month, adding that Benue cannot be said to be lacking funds to tackle food shortages and insecurity in the state.
On his part, the state’s Commissioner for Sports who is a former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Terkimbi Ikyange who spoke on behalf of Governor Hyacinth Alia, urged people of the state to return to their games as there is not enough funds for Benue State Government to tackle hunger and insecurity decisively in the state.
Earlier, the State Chairman of the APC, Comrade Austin Agada, hailed the deceased women leader for her role in helping the party win the 2023 elections in the area.
Agada who read out contributions made by the late Ushongo women leader to the party in her lifetime, also emphasized that the party will ensure the welfare of those she left behind and prayed God to console her immediate family and the entire Benue people.
