The prolong power outage that hit Lokoja, kogi state capital,north central for some weeks now entered another stage on Thursday when some youths in the area organized a peaceful protest to the office of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company AEDC,along Murtala Mohammed road to express their feelings towards the development.
Some of the protestants, numbering about 50, carrying placards of Various inscriptions,told our correspondent in an interview that the effect of the power outage, amid of the terrible heat Lokoja, had become unbearable for them, their parents and other residents.
They called on the regional office of AEDC to find lasting solution to the energy problem.
The youth said that officials of the AEDC on Murtala Mohammed road promised them that normal electricity supply would return to Lokoja by 2.p.m on Thursday with an appeal to them to exercise patients promising that efforts were on to find lasting solution to the problem.
A senior officer of the region office of AEDC in Lokoja,who spoke to our correspondent on the issue, on the condition of anonymity,traced it to shortage of gas.
The officer, who said that officials of the electricity company were not left out of the biting effect of the power outage, said efforts were being made to find solution to the problem.
Our correspondent, however, gathered that electricity consumers on 33kv transformer are excluded from the power outage.
Confirming another dimension to the issue of power outage in Lokoja in its IMPORTANT PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT, a copy of which was made available to The Reporters on Thursday, the management of region office expressed regret over the development.
They said, “We regret to inform all our customers that Zango feeder 2 tripped on major fault.
“Our technical team is already out to trace and rectify the fault.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and understanding during this challenging time.
“Rest assured, we are committed to resolving this issue soonest.”
