The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released its 2023 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) showing a decline in the level of examination related malpractices when compared to the previous years.
Also, as part of measures to address accusations of favouritisms and lopsidedness in posting for out-station staff on assignments outside NECO headquarters, Minna, the Council has launched e-posting Automated Annual Posting Calendar.
The Registrar/Chief Executive NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi disclosed this while at the Council’s headquarters along the Minna-Bida road on Monday.
Professor Wushishi, giving a breakdown of the results said, “The number of candidates booked for various forms of malpractice is 8, 518, as against 11,419 in the year, 2022 which shows a decline in the number of malpractice cases by 25.4%”.
Examination malpractice cases for the 2023 SSCE (external), according to the Registrar involved two centers, one each in Kaduna and Ogun states in whole cases, adding that NECO will continue to evolve strategies to improve on its examinations to meet global education standards.
He said, “Two Supervisors, one each in Oyo and Lagos states have been blacklisted for poor supervision, inability to control the candidates, and for aiding and abating examination malpractices”.
In one other centre in Borno state, Professor Wushishi said a school was blacklisted for aiding and abetting by sharing messages through wassap by the candidates.
Meanwhile, Professor Wushishi said the launching of automated annual posting calendar, ‘e-posting’, a new innovation and part of digitalizing process, would end confusions created by the introduction of staff posting calendar.
“What we are doing today is taking step further by digitalizing the process and making it seamless, thereby addressing some of the concerns associated with the manual process of assigning staff for an out of station engagements”, according to the NECO boss.
He added that by the new initiatives,every staff would be notified of assignments due to him/her and place of assignment through SMS annually.
