Practicing Journalists in Nasarawa State have exercised concern over threat posed to their lives by individuals and the political class and appealed to the law enforcement agencies to protect them against such heartless persons.
This is contained in a Communique signed by the secretary,Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nasarawa Council, Sunday John, at the end of its monthly Congress meeting in Lafia.
The congress also observed with deep concerned the activities of fake journalists spread across the state as well as impersonators and called on its members to fish out such elements by reporting them to the state council and the Police Command for necessary action.
The congress stressed the need for journalists in the state to engage more in rural reporting and investigative journalism in order to expose the ills of the society.
The communique also condemned, in strong terms, the formation of Nomad Vigilante Group in the State, nothing that
the formation of such group was capable of threatening the current peaceful coexistence being enjoyed in the state.
The Journalists ,who explained that there were existing vigilante groups in various communities in the state, advised anybody interested in the security of the state could join the existing ones.
The congress joined millions of Nigerians in congratulating the governor of the state, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, on the affirmation of his victory at the Supreme court and urged him to be magnanimous in victory.
On energy, the communique
appealed to authorities of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and the government to address the issue of high billings by providing pre-paid meters to customers.
It noted that many of AEDC personnel had cashed in on the lack of the prepaid meters “to defraud unsuspecting customers” in the state.
