FG urges graduates to look beyond certificates.

The federal government has challenged the 7, 312 graduates of the Federal University of Technology,Minna, Niger State to look beyond the joy of having certificate or being a graduate.
Instead, they should apply the skills acquired during their academic sojourn to create jobs for self reliance and become employers of labour.
The visitor to the university, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave the advice on Thursday at the 41st Founders’ Day/ 31st and 32nd combined convocation of the university which took place at the FUT, Minna main campus, Gidan-Kwano.
The President, who spoke through Professor Chinedu Nwajiuba, said one of the reasons for the establishment of technologically inclined institutions like the FUT Minna, is to provide opportunities for the impartation of technological innovations on students who are expected to deploy skills acquired for new inventions.
“Today you are now a graduate, I urge you not to be carried away by your certificate.
“Be innovative in creating a world of your own through skills that would help in speedy transformation of agricultural sector to actualise self sufficiency in food production”.
“Nigeria is blessed with not just arable land but human and material resources and that is why the federal government is encouraging the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to align with technologically inclined universities to evolve strategies in order to depend less on importation.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the university,Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, said the university, since his assumption of office, had embarked on various innovations that had earned the institution global reckoning, especially in the area of exchange programmes.

Adisa Suleiman and Abdulhakeem Aminu Obejara of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Departments emerged best graduating students for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic session respectively.
Out of the figure of graduates for the two academic sessions,187 made first class.
